Mr. Harvey

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what steps he is taking to urge the Indonesian Government to allow international observers access to Xanana Gusmao and all East Timorese political prisoners.

Mr. Goodlad

We take every opportunity, with our Community partners, to urge the Indonesian authorities to allow regular access to Gusmao and other prisoners by representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
