asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have been consulted by the United States Administration on the desirability of making use of the Russian-supplied Topaz 2 space nuclear power system and if not, whether they will examine the matter in the light of its possible effects in space.

We are involved in the evaluation of the Topaz 2 system via Atomic Energy Authority Technology. In addition, the Defence Research Agency at Farnborough is studying the flight opportunities which may be made available by a system with such large power sources.
