The information required is available from the civilian employment tables in "Labour Force Statistics 1970–1990" (OECD), a copy of which is in the Library. For Great Britain, the latest estimates for 1990 of civilian employment as a percentage of total civilian employment are as follows:

The available information is for Great Britain. Employees in employment data can be obtained from the 655W NOMIS database which is accessible from the Library. Historical data for self-employed people is available in the Library on page 54 of Historical Supplement No. 3, issued with the June 1992 edition of Employment Gazette.
