HC Deb 22 January 1993 vol 217 c451W
Mr. Vaz

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what figures he has for the amount of derelict land in England; and what studies he has made into the cost of reclaiming it.

Mr. Robin Squire

The 1988 survey of derelict land in England recorded 40,500 hectares of derelict land as at 1 April 1988.

Ove Arup consultants are currently researching the cost effectiveness of a sample of hard end use derelict land grant schemes for the Department.

The cost effectiveness of derelict land grant schemes intended for environmental/recreational end uses has already been studied and is reported in the 1989 HMSO publication "Cost Effective Management of Reclaimed Derelict Sites".
