HC Deb 22 January 1993 vol 217 c453W
Mr. Don Foster

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the effect of the forthcoming EC landfill directive on the remedial works in the Combe Down mines, Bath.

Mr. Maclean

The latest draft of the EC directive on the landfill of waste is currently being substantially revised by the European Commission to take account of amendments considered by the European Parliament at its October plenary session. The proposal will be subject to detailed consideration by the Council of Ministers once it is given priority by a member state holding the presidency. The directive is unlikely to be adopted for a considerable time and it is too early to anticipate what impact its provisions will have on the proposals for remedial works in the Combe Down mines, Bath.
