HC Deb 21 January 1993 vol 217 cc414-5W
Mr. Ainger

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list the number and location of military incidents requiring search-and-rescue helicopter response in the area defined by longitudes 7° W and 3° W and latitudes 50° 25°V N and 53° N, together with the name of the military establishments which responded to each incident, since 1987.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

The table gives the number of military incidents requiring search and rescue helicopter response, together with the name of the military establishment which responded, in the area defined for the period in question:

The numbers employed by the contractors at these establishments are a matter for them.

Mr. Ainger

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what was the expenditure by his Department at each of the proof and experimental establishments at Eskmeals, Shoeburyness and Pendine in 1990–91, 1991–92 and projected for 1992–93.

Mr. Aitken

It is not possible to produce figures on a directly comparable basis for the three years in question because of changes in the Department's accounting practice.

Subject to this proviso, the details are as follows:

£ million
1990–91 1991–92 1992–93
Eskmeals 3.2 5.5 6.6
Shoeburyness 8.1 11.7 14.0
Pendine 3.6 4.8 7.3
