HC Deb 21 January 1993 vol 217 cc413-4W
Mrs. Ewing

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence when the used fuel core currently stored at the naval reactor test establishment Dounreay was removed from the reactor; when it is planned to transport the used core to Sellafield; and by what means.

Mr. Aitken

The used fuel core at the naval reactor test establishment, Dounreay, comprises elements removed from three different naval reactors between 1984 and 1987. The material has been analysed as part of the continuing programme of used naval fuel post-irradiation examination. The core will be removed to Sellafield when a suitably licensed mode of transport is available.

Mrs. Ewing

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence where and how a used fuel core is currently stored within the naval reactor test establishment Dounreay.

Mr. Aitken

The used fuel core is held safely in a dedicated core pond within the establishment.
