HC Deb 21 January 1993 vol 217 cc393-4W
20. Mr. Ian Bruce

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what measures are being taken to attract investment in Londonderry.

Mr. Atkins

The attraction of inward investment to high unemployment areas, including Londonderry, is a priority task for the Industrial Development Board for Northern Ireland, which, through its offices at home and overseas, ensures that the many advantages which such areas offer are brought to the attention of potential investors. The IDB is grateful for the valuable support it receives from local business men and other community leaders. The success of this partnership was evident in the announcement last month by Seagate Technology that it intends to establish a high-tech project which will create 500 new jobs in Londonderry. This very welcome news follows recent announcements of investment by other major international companies which will create in excess of 450 more jobs.
