HL Deb 18 January 1993 vol 541 cc56-7WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in the light of Israel's nuclear weapons programme, they have reminded other governments in the Middle East which have signed the Non-Proliferation Treaty of the security guarantees that they (together with the governments of the United States and the then USSR) undertook in 1968 towards non-nuclear weapons signatories of the treaty facing possible nuclear threats from other parties.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

The Positive Security Assurance given by the UK in 1968 to non-nuclear weapon states parties to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, which was noted and welcomed in Security Council Resolution 255, remains unchanged. The texts of both the Assurance and the Resolution are freely available.
