To ask the Secretary of State for Education what assessment his Department has made of the correlation between surplus places in schools, expenditure per pupil, and GCSE results.

As my right hon. Friend told the House on 15 December 1992,Official Report, columns 284–85, the Department is investigating these figures and their relationships. I will write to my hon. Friend when that analysis is available.
