§ Mr. RobathanTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what plans his Department has to mark Watch Your Waste Week in March; and what proposals he has for the future of the event.
§ Mr. MacleanThe Department, in conjunction with Waste Watch, has been encouraging local authorities, voluntary groups and industry to participate in Watch Your Waste Week. The week is being launched in London on 18 March and a range of events is being planned throughout the country.
The Department also plans to have a stand at the ideal home exhibition, March 18 to April 12, which will focus, amongst other issues, on recycling.
I would encourage all hon. Members to participate in the week. I have put details about the week in the Library of the House.
Our aims for the campaign are to increase awareness of how people can reduce, re-use and recycle their waste and also to encourage them to buy products which minimise waste or are made from recycled products. We will consider, in the light of its effectiveness, whether or not the week should be repeated.
