Mr. Worthington

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1) how many ballot papers were supplied by the British Government for the recent Kenyan elections; and how many were necessary for meeting the legitimate voting needs of the Kenyan electorate;

(2) for what reasons the ballot papers for the recent Kenyan elections were supplied by the British Government rather than by the European Community.

The British Government did not supply any ballot papers for the recent Kenyan elections.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many ballot boxes were supplied by the British Government for the recent elections in Kenya; how many were calculated as necessary for the elections; and how many were thought to be surplus to immediate requirements.

The British Government supplied 35,000 ballot boxes in accordance with the requirement for the elections calculated by the Kenyan electoral commission.
