Mr. Dobson

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many non-manual workers are unemployed on the basis used in the answer given on 30 October 1992,Official Report, column 911; and what percentage of the work force this represents.

Mr. McLoughlin

The most recent figures from the summer, June to August, 1992 Labour Force Survey show 822,000—not seasonally adjusted—non-manual workers unemployed on the internationally agreed ILO definition. This represented 5.4 per cent. of all economically active non-manual workers in Great Britain.
