To ask the Secretary of State for Health, pursuant to her answer of 12 February,Offical Report, column 828, if she will place copies of the financial accounts from all first wave self-governing trusts in the Library.

Dr. Mawhinney

The financial accounts information supplied by first wave trusts for 1991–92 is summarised by the Department and presented to Parliament by the Comptroller and Auditor General when he has completed his audit. The summarised accounts will be published as a House of Commons paper copies of which are placed in the Library. Full copies of the accounts of individual trusts are in the public domain and can be obtained locally.

Mr. Madden

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what charge per day per patient is made by secure units for the mentally ill in Yorkshire in(a) self-governing trusts and (b) other hospitals.

Mr. Yeo

Information on the charges made by secure units to national health service purchasers in respect of normal referrals is not held centrally. Details of daily charges are collected for patients admitted as extra contractual referrals. The latest figures available are for financial year 1991–92 and are as follows:

£ per day
Newton Lodge medium secure unit (Wakefield) 198
De La Pole Hospital interim secure unit (Hull) 191
High Royds Hospital interim secure unit (Ilkley) 100

72. Mr. Madden

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what representations have been received from Yorkshire regional health authority over the past five years about a secure unit for those suffering from mental illness.

Mr. Yeo

I refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave him on 19 February.
