HC Deb 18 February 1993 vol 219 c290W
Mr. Alton

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action the British Government have taken to discourage the promotion of sex tourism through holiday brochures, magazines and other forms of mass communications in this country.

Mr. Jack

While the Government have no power to ban or censor publications, anyone publishing brochures promoting sex tourism could risk prosecution under the Obscene Publications Act 1959, or for an offence of conspiracy to corrupt public morals at common law. It would, however, be for the courts to decide whether an offence had been committed in any individual case.
