§ Mr. Blair
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what percentage of notifiableoffences were cleared up in(a) 1990, (b) 1991 and (c) July 1991 to June 1992, in each offence category and for each police force region.

The requested information for 1990 is published in table 2.22 of "Criminal Statistics, England and Wales 1990," a copy of which is available in the Library. Information for 1991 is published in the table. Information for the 12 months to June 1992 is not available.

§ Mr. Sweeney
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what information he has as to the police manpower levels, crime statistics and clear-up rates of police forces in(a) England and Wales and (h) other EC countries.

§ Mr. Charles Wardle
The police forces of England and Wales provide monthly statistical returns of strength for police officers and civilian support staff. Information on notifiable offences recorded by the police and clear-up292W rates is collected on a regular basis and the statistics are published half-yearly in a Home Office statistical bulletin and annually in the Command Paper "Criminal Statistics: England and Wales".
Comparable statistical data on police service complementing or crime rates for member states of the EC are not available.
