Mr. Sims

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what was the result of the recent meeting of the Council of Ministers which reviewed the EC spirits definition regulations requiring a minimum alcoholic strength by volume for whisky.

Mr. Curry

The Council accepted a recommendation by the EC Commission that the minimum alcoholic strength of whisky should remain at 40 per cent. by volume.
