§ Mr. WilsonTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport when he intends to publish a consultation document on possible amendments to the Transport Act 1985.
§ Mr. FreemanI do not intend to alter the basic deregulatory regime set up by the Transport Act 1985. There may, however, be aspects of its working that could be improved and I intend to issue a consultation paper on them shortly.
§ Mr. WilsonTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what action has been taken to implement commitment No. 77 in the "This Common Inheritance" second year report relating to the provision of better information to bus passengers and the development of measures for promoting the use of buses.
§ Mr. FreemanI have allocated a further £15.5 million for measures to promote bus use in 1993–94, some of which relate to passenger information systems, and have also allocated funds to a trial of low-floor buses. I have commissioned research into the provision of information to bus passengers and will consider whether to issue guidelines in the light of this research.
