HC Deb 15 February 1993 vol 219 c35W
Mr. John D. Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, pursuant to the oral answer by the Lord President of the Council, 25 June 1992,Official Report, column 395, what is his current policy on the establishment of a Northern Ireland Select Committee.

Sir Patrick Mayhew

The establishment of a Northern Ireland Select Committee is a matter for the House. The Government, however, take the view that while such a Committee may be desirable in principle there remain a number of issues, including the extent of support from elected representatives from both sides of the community in Northern Ireland, needing further consideration.
