To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the number of(a) nursing and midwifery staff, (b) managerial staff and (c) clerical and administrative staff in Lothian health board in each year since 1989.

1 Data for September 1992 are provisional.
2 Nursing and midwifery includes qualified, unqualified and staff in training. The decrease in numbers between 1991 and 1992 are largely accounted for by the Project 2000 student nurses who are excluded from the 1992 figures.
3 1989 figures include administrative and clerical staff on grade 18 and above. 1990–91 includes grades 7 and above.
4 The increase in numbers in this group is partially accounted for by the transfer of some professional staff to senior manager grades.
