HC Deb 11 February 1993 vol 218 cc765-6W
18. Ms. Quin

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what measures he proposes to tackle youth crime.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The Government have introduced a wide range of measures which aim to prevent young people from committing crime. We have also considerably strengthened the powers of the courts to deal with those who do. I am now preparing proposals for new measures which will increase the powers of the courts to provide care and training in secure accommodation for juveniles who persistently re-offend.
