To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many days were lost due to strikes in the north-west of England in each of the last 10 years.

It is provisionally estimated that in the twelve months to November 1992, the latest period for which data are available, 33,000 working days were lost in the north-west of England. Working days lost in the previous 10 calendar years are given in the following table:
