HC Deb 09 February 1993 vol 218 c595W
Ms. Walley

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security on what basis he has calculated the 25p rise in pensions paid to those over 80 years of age; and if he will make a statement.

Miss Widdecombe

The 25p age addition paid to people who are over 80 was introduced in 1971. No Government have ever increased the age addition since its introduction and there are no plans to do so. Instead, we have chosen to target extra resources towards pensioners on income-related benefits.
