11. Mr. Burden

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how much of the defence procurement budget for the last available year was spent on contractors based in the west midlands.

Mr. Aitken

We estimate that, in 1990–91, about £450 million was paid to contractors based in the west midlands for defence equipment.
