§ Mr. CousinsTo ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will publish a table showing(a) the service increment for teaching allocations between regions for each year from 1990–91 to 1993–94 and (b) the distribution of service increment for teaching allocations between hospitals and trusts within the northern region for the same years.
§ Mr. SackvilleThe service increment for teaching— SIFT—was expanded in 1990–91 to provide for the excess service costs of research, becoming the service increment for teaching and research SIFTR. The regional allocations of SIFTR for the years 1990–91 to 1993–94 are set out in the table.
The allocation of SIFTR at a sub-regional level is the responsibility of the regional health authorities. The hon. Member may wish to contact Mr. Peter Carr CBE, the chairman of Northern regional health authority, for details.
