HC Deb 08 February 1993 vol 218 c512W
Mr. Ainger

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will establish a national database for nursing vacancies.

Mr. Stewart

No. The changes in funding arrangements for nurse education and training in Scotland which will take place on 1 April 1993 mean that health boards will have the responsibility for assessing the demand for pre-registration nursing, midwifery and health visiting education and training of all employers within their areas. The matching of newly qualified nurses to vacancies is best handled at local level. In addition the Employment Service, through its jobcentres, can advertise vacancies for any occupational group in any locality on its national computer network provided that they are notified by employers.
