To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his policy towards the disposal of heritable property which he regards as no longer required as for civil defence purposes.

[holding answer 5 February 1993]: The Government's policy towards the disposal of such properties is set out in chapter 32, paragraph 1 of "Government Accounting", which requires Departments to ensure that they obtain the best possible price so as to protect the taxpayers' interests.
