HC Deb 08 February 1993 vol 218 c516W
Mr. Pawsey

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list for each regional water company the number of tests carried out by the drinking water inspectorate, for the last year for which figures are available, and the pass rate for each test for each company; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Maclean

Water companies are required by the Water Quality Regulations to take samples of the water they supply and to analyse them. The drinking water inspectorate checks the manner in which companies carry out this function but it does not carry out tests itself. Information on the quality of drinking water supplied by each company in England and Wales during 1990 and 1991, including that sought by my hon. Friend, is contained in the annual reports of the chief inspector, copies of which have been placed in the Library.
