HC Deb 05 February 1993 vol 218 cc354-5W
Mr. Thurnham

To ask the Attorney-General what representations he has received about the law on the right to silence and the implications in child cruelty cases; and if he will make a statement.

The Attorney-General

I have received three letters from Members of Parliament and one from a member of the public regarding the right to silence and its implications in child cruelty cases.

As regards my views on the general issue, I refer the hon. Gentleman to my answer to the hon. Member for Denton and Reddish (Mr. Bennett) on 18 January 1993, Official Report, column 4. I do not advocate creating special arrangements for specific categories of offences.
