§ Ms. PrimaroloTo ask the Secretary of State for Health pursuant to her answer of 9 December,Official Report, column 690, what was the total number of hospitals making activity returns in England in 1992, distinguishing between (a) the NHS, (b) joint users and contractuals and (c) independent acute.
§ Mr. SackvilleI refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave her on 9 December 1992 at column 690. In addition to the 1,578 national health service sites making activity returns in 1990–91 there were 217 independent hospitals which had an operating theatre and could therefore be classified as acute. There are no sites classified as joint users and contractuals making returns to the Department.
