In the period August 1984—September 1988 a change in classification slightly reduced the number of housebreakings recorded: in cases where garden sheds, greenhouses, lock up garages (not attached to a dwelling house), non residential caravans and portacabins used for storage were broken into such offences were classified as theft by opening lockfast places rather than housebreaking.
