§ Mr. Kenneth Carlisle[holding answer 1 February 1992]: Where my right hon. Friend is authorised to acquire certain special types of land, such as an open space or common, he is required to follow the provisions of the Acquisition of Land Act 1981. The compulsory purchase order is the subject of special parliamentary procedure, unless the Secretary of State for the Environment certifies either that equivalent land has been or will be given in exchange; or that the land does not exceed 250 square yards in extent.
