To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many employees British Rail is seeking to make redundant; how many have so far been accepted for redundancy; and how many of those accepted are(a) management, (b) clerical, (c) supervisors, (d) drivers and (e) guards.

[holding answer 28 January 1993]: British Rail expects that some 7,000 staff will be accepted for redundancy as a result of the response to the voluntary severance offer made last November. Final decisions have yet to be made on those to be accepted.
