§ Mr. Steinberg
To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage if he will list the council-owned public swimming pools which have been closed in 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1992.

§ Mr. Brooke
The Great Britain Sports Council estimate that the number of council owned swimming pools in the United Kingdom increased from around 1,100 in 1982 to 1,300 in 1992. In addition it is estimated that there are another 200 pools available with an element of community use. Closure figures are not readily available.
