asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, and if so when, they propose to amend the Social Security (Contributions and Benefits) Act 1992 to conform with Directive 79/7/EEC.

We have no plans to do so. We consider that the Act complies where appropriate with the terms of the directive.

Although not required to do so by the directive, we are preparing proposals for equalisation of state pension age which we will bring forward in due course.
