HC Deb 01 February 1993 vol 218 c30W
Mr. Parry

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the present policy of Her Majesty's Government towards the peaceful re-unification of Korea; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Goodlad

Our support for efforts to achieve a peaceful solution on the Korean peninsula is undiminished. We were generally encouraged by the talks between South and North Korea which took place during 1992, though much remains to be done. We hope that dialogue will resume before long.

We also hope that bilateral nuclear inspections will get under way soon. Together with continued International Atomic Energy inspections in North Korea, these are an important confidence-building measure.
