§ Mr. EnrightTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many aid programmes are being undertaken in Guinea Bissau; and what is their nature.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydWe assist Guinea Bissau mainly through our contributions to the aid programmes of multilateral development institutions. For example, the European Community has an indicative aid programme of 42 mecu (about £32 million) for Guinea Bissau for 1990–95: our share amounts to over 16 per cent. We also support the work of United Kingdom NGOs in Guinea Bissau and make available modest funds through the non-resident British ambassador for gifts with a developmental or welfare purpose.
