HC Deb 01 February 1993 vol 218 c39W
Mr. Enright

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many aid programmes are being undertaken in Guinea Bissau; and what is their nature.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

We assist Guinea Bissau mainly through our contributions to the aid programmes of multilateral development institutions. For example, the European Community has an indicative aid programme of 42 mecu (about £32 million) for Guinea Bissau for 1990–95: our share amounts to over 16 per cent. We also support the work of United Kingdom NGOs in Guinea Bissau and make available modest funds through the non-resident British ambassador for gifts with a developmental or welfare purpose.
