HC Deb 01 February 1993 vol 218 cc37-8W
Mr. McMaster

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his policy for ensuring that disabled employees, clients and members of the public have access to all parts of(a) new-build and (b) existing buildings for which he is responsible.

Mr. Lang

[holding answer 27 January 1993]: The policy is to ensure the easiest possible access for disabled people to Scottish Office buildings by providing ramps, wide access doors, internal lifts, toilets for the disabled, etc. The design of some buildings, particularly older buildings and smaller local offices, makes access difficult for those with disabilities but every effort is made to minimise these difficulties.

The proposed major new office building for the Scottish Office will be designed to meet the highest standards of provision for disabled staff and visitors.
