HC Deb 17 December 1993 vol 234 c980W
Dr. Wright

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage which of the appointments made to public bodies by his Department since April 1992 have been advertised.

Mr. Sproat

[holding answer 16 December 1993]: The only appointment made to a public body by the Department of National Heritage since April 1992 which has been advertised is the regulatory adviser for the national lottery.

Dr. Wright

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what his Department's policy is regarding the use of executive search consultants in making appointments to public bodies; and if he will(a) list the appointments where such consultants have been used and (b) list the cost in each case since April 1992.

Mr. Sproat

[holding answer 16 December 1993]: The Department has internal guidelines on public appointments procedures which supplement the "Guide on Public Appointments Procedures" produced by the Public Appointments Unit. In respect of identifying candidates for public appointments our guidelines make it clear that there may be a small number of the most important appointments when it would be useful to use executive search consultants. All proposals to do so must be cleared in advance with the Permanent Secretary. The only appointment where such consultants were used, and the cost, since April 1992 was as follows:

Appointment Cost
Regulatory Adviser for National Lottery £19,550+VAT
