HC Deb 17 December 1993 vol 234 c983W
Mr. Cousins

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what were the resources allocated to each of his laboratories and agencies in 1992–93 and 1993–94 in both cash and standard prices; and what resources were allocated to the central scientific advice functions in each year on a similar basis.

Mr. McLoughlin

Cash expenditure incurred by the Department's agencies which are under net running cost control in 1992–93 and 1993–94 is shown in the 1992–93 Supply Estimates class IV, vote 2 sections C and L to Q and in the 1993–94 Supply Estimates class IV, vote 1 sections E to J. Forecasts of expenditure and receipts for all the Department's agencies are set out in table 23, as amended, at page 41 of Cm 2204.

Scientific advice is provided to Ministers from many sources, including management units whose budgets fall within section C of the DTI Vote—Administration—in 1993–94 and section A in 1992–93. The amounts spent on central scientific advice are not separately identified. In addition, £527,000 and £414,000 was allocated to the office of the DTI's chief adviser on science and technology in 1992–93 and 1993–94 respectively.

The Department does not calculate expenditure in "standard prices".
