HC Deb 17 December 1993 vol 234 cc957-8W
Sir Thomas Arnold

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assessment he has made of the progress towards ratification of the new European election boundaries in each member country of the EC.

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

Ireland, Denmark, Belgium and Germany have notified the Council secretariat that they have completed the necessary procedures for the implementation of the Council decision increasing the number of seats in the European Parliament. All other member states have the necessary legislation in hand. They have committed themselves to completing the process in time for the European parliamentary elections in June next year.
