HL Deb 16 December 1993 vol 550 c130WA
Lord Moran

asked Her Majesty's Government:

For how long exports of live cattle from the United Kingdom have been restricted to animals under six months old which must be slaughtered at six months because of the continuance of BSE, when they expect the export restrictions imposed by the European Commission decisions of 28th July 1989, 7th February 1990 and 8th June 1990 to be lifted.

The Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Earl Howe)

Regulations which restrict the exports of live cattle from the United Kingdom to those animals under six months old (which must be slaughtered before the age of six months) came into force on 7 February 1990 under European Commission decision 90/59/EEC.

The Commission are keeping the restrictions imposed by their decisions of 28th July 1989, 7th February 1990 and 8th June 1990, under review.
