§ Mr. HunterTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make representations to President Mugabe about the continued imprisonment in Zimbabwe of Michael Smith, Kevin Woods, Barry Bawden, Philip Conjwayo and Charles Beahan and seek a reprieve of their death sentences on humanitarian grounds.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydOn 10 December, the Zimbabwe Supreme Court commuted the death sentences on Woods, Conjwayo and Smith—a British citizen—to life imprisonment. They had been found guilty of murder. We have no plans to make representations on their behalf, or on behalf of Bawden and Beahan—also a British citizen—who were imprisoned for attempting to rescue the others.
