The figures requested are given in the table which sets out, by grade, the total number of non-industrial Home Office staff, including those in agencies, on outward secondment or on maternity or special leave, and the number of respondents belonging to black or Asian ethnic groupings. The current response rates to ethnic surveys is 85 per cent. for the main Home Office and 99 per cent. for the Prison Service; the latter includes management classification. The answer does not include those respondents in other ethnic minorities. The information was generated from the Home Office personnel system on 6 December 1993.
