§ Mr. Stewart[holding answer 2 December 1993]: Studies of perioperative mortality have been carried out in Scotland for some years. From 1 January 1994 the whole of Scotland will be covered when the Glasgow audit of surgical deaths is merged with the Scottish mortality study to become the Scottish audit of surgical mortality.
This audit is funded by the clinical resource and audit group, part of the Scottish Office Home and Health Department.
