To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what will be British infantry strength in 1994 and 1995.

Mr. Hanley

The total trained strength of British infantry is expected to be about 29,000 on 1 April 1994 and between 26,000 and 27,000 on 1 April 1995.

Mr. Aitken

None. The present criteria are of long standing and have been maintained by successive Governments.
