The Secretary of State has asked me to write to you directly in reply to your Parliamentary Question about drugs offences in prisons. The available information for each prison in England and Wales is in the enclosed table and is published annually in "Statistics of offences against prison discipline and punishments, England and Wales" (Tables 9-11 of the 1991 issue, Cm 2066). It relates to actual and attempted drugs offences which were punished under the prison discipline system during 1991, 1992 and the first quarter of 1993. The data for 1992 and 1993 are provisional and subject to revision.188W
