§ Mr. Charles Wardle[holding answer 20 April 1993]: Up to 17 April, my right hon. and learned Friend received 13 representations about the future of Gwent constabulary. All these were against its amalgamation with another force. My right hon. and learned Friend made a statement about the future of the police service in England and Wales on 23 March. As he said then, he has no plans at present for any amalgamations.
