HC Deb 22 April 1993 vol 223 c180W
Mr. Mullin

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps are being taken to reopen the case of Leslie Green, hanged for the murder of Alice Wiltshaw; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Jack

Mr. Green was convicted of the murder of Mrs. Wiltshaw on 5 December 1952. The jury made no recommendation as to mercy, and no appeal was lodged. There is no trace of any recent representations having been made to the Home Office concerning the safety of Mr. Green's conviction, and neither has any new evidence been presented to us which might bear on the matter. Accordingly, there are no current grounds for reopening the case.
