[holding answer 15 April 1993]: Information on the number of outstanding applications for home improvement grants received by local authorities is not held centrally.

Mr. Darling

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps he proposes to take to reduce the backlog of applications for home improvement grants in Scotland; and if he will make a statement.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

[holding answer 15 April 1993]: The Government make available substantial resources to local authorities to fund improvement grants and other investment in private housing. The non-HRA capital allocations for 1993–94 announced on 29 March total £120.5 million. These include £9.030 million which is earmarked to deal with the backlog of pre-1984 improvement and repairs grant applications in Edinburgh.
